Obituary of Harold Weisshaar
Harold Melvin Weisshaar, 83, passed away peacefully at his home on June 1, 2006.
He was born December 30, 1922 in Harlan County, Nebraska to Jakob and Imkea (Westerbuhr) Weisshaar. He was baptized in the Lutheran Church on January 21, 1923. When Harold was eight, the family moved to the Settlement Area north of Bethune. He was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church April 2, 1939. Harold graduated from Burlington High School in 1941. He served in the Army Air Corp from 1943-1946.
On December 30, 1948 he married Esther Adolf at Immanuel Lutheran Church. While living in Burlington, Harold worked for the Co-op and for T.W. Backlund. To this Union five children were born. In 1962 Harold and his family moved to the family farm north of Burlington where he lived until the time of his death.
Harold was active in his church throughout his entire life. He was a charter member of the William Hogate VFW Post 6491. The joy of his life was his family, grandchildren and great grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Alvina Guy, and sister-in-law, Leona Weisshaar.
Surviving him is his loving wife, Esther; children Duane Weisshaar, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Joyce and James Lightle, Burlington, Colorado, Donita and Darryl Harvey, Aurora, Colorado Janet and Michael Willis, Greeley, Colorado, and Kent and Connie Weisshaar, Burlington, Colorado, grandchildren Jamie Lightle, Jake Lightle, Jason Harvey, Amber Weisshaar ( Derek Vaughn) April Weisshaar and Andrea Weisshaar; and great grandson Andre Vaughn ( Haroldâs Angels) survive him.
Also surviving him is brother, Lee Weisshaar, Burlington; brother-in laws David Guy, Stratton, Colorado, Ralph Adolf and wife Barbara, Yuma, Colorado, Ernest Adolf and wife Hazel, Canon City, Colorado, and sister-in-law, Louise Frohman, Hay Springs, Nebraska and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He will remain in our hearts forever.
Funeral services were held on Monday, June 5, 2006 at 10:30 AM at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bethune, with Pastor Roger Milheim officiating. Burial followed in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Bethune. Visitation was held on Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the Immanuel Lutheran Church north of Bethune.
Memorials may be given in his name in lieu of flowers and may be left at the Bank of Burlington in Burlington.
