Obituary of Arthur Converse

View Video Tribute Arthur Nelson Converse, 87, of Bennett, CO passed away in his home on September 26, 2006 surrounded by his loving family. Arthur was born on October 12, 1918 in Colorado Springs, CO to Newton E. and Ida C. (Olson) Converse one of two children. Arthur lived most of his life in the Bennett area, graduating from Bennett High School in 1936. He then attended the University of Colorado and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1944. Arthur married Helen Schlichting in Boulder, CO on March 4, 1944 and they were blessed with four children. The couple farmed and ranched in Bennett since 1948 to present. Arthur was willing to work two jobs to get the farm started. Arthur was a member of the Bennett Baptist Church and the last surviving Charter Member of the church serving many years on the church board. He was a family man, loved music and had an appreciation for the simple things in life. Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, two nephews, and one brother-in-law; Forrest Heath. Arthur is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen of Bennett, CO, daughters; Leanne (Arthur) Jess of Haines, AK, Jean (David) Storer of Colman, SD, and Marilyn (Bill) Henderson of Denver, CO and one son; Bruce (Debbie) Converse of Bennett, CO. Also surviving are sisters; Clara Heath of Gulf Breeze, FL and eight grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services were held Monday, October 2, 2006 at the Bennett Baptist Church in Bennett, CO at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Barry Layne officiating. Interment followed at the Mountain View Cemetery in Bennett, CO. Memorials may be made to The Gideon’s International P.O. Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214-0800.
