Obituary of Vera Murphy

View Video Tribute Vera Marie Murphy, 80, of Limon, Colorado, passed away on January 2, 2007 at her home in Limon with her family at her side. Vera was born March 26, 1926 in Fowler, Colorado to parents Auzy J. and Minnie D. (Parsons) Porterfield. She was one of seven children. Vera graduated from the eighth grade. Vera married Jim Murphy on September 27, 1945 in Goodland, Kansas. To this union four children were born; Jim, Danny, Elsie and Jo Ann. The family lived in the Rush community, where Vera worked alongside her husband Jim on the family farm. In the early years they earned many awards for turkey excellence and egg production. Following the death of her husband of 45 years Vera moved to Limon in 1991. Vera was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on May 19, 1974. Her love for Bible Study and her strong faith played an important role in her life. Vera also enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles, crocheting, sewing and embroidery. She loved her grandchildren dearly, and will be remembered for the wonderful cookies and bread she so often baked. She especially loved children and was referred to as “Grandma Veraâ€? by most who knew her. Vera was preceded in death by her parents, Auzy and Minnie; one infant son, Danny, her husband, Jim; sister, Angie; and brothers, Osborn, Lee and Bud. Vera is survived by son Jim (Margaret) Murphy of Limon, CO and their children Janice (Aaron) Monks and children Sloan and Rafe of Franktown, CO, Cheryl Murphy of Limon, CO and Ryan Murphy of Loveland, CO; daughter Elsie (Steve) Magee of Limon, CO and children Wendi (Demetrio) Garza of Greeley, CO, Heidi Magee of Limon, CO and Beth (Mason) Karle of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter Jo Ann (Rick) Josephus of Limon, CO and children Erick (Savannah) Josephus of Limon, CO and Nathan Josephus of Limon, CO. She is also survived by her sisters Ivy Lou Porterfield of Colorado Springs, CO and Minnie Mae Porterfield of Colorado Springs, CO. A funeral service for Vera was held on Saturday, January 6, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Limon, CO. Burial followed the service in the Pershing Memorial Cemetery also in Limon. Visitation was held at the Love Funeral Home in Limon on Friday, January 05, 2007 from 1 to 4 P.M. Love Funeral Home of Limon, Colorado was in charge of arrangement.
