Obituary of Harriet Timmons

View Video Tribute Harriet Ann Timmons, 75 passed away in Hugo at the Lincoln Community Nursing Home March 13, 2007. Hat was born in Hugo, CO to Elmer (Slim) and Margaret (Maggie) Hamling. She was the first born of two children. She has a younger brother Michael J. (Mike) Hamling. Hat attended school in Hugo graduating from High School in 1949. She married William J. (Bill) Timmons on May 15, 1950 and to this union two children were born, son Tom in 1951 and daughter Margaret in 1958. Harriet did various jobs in Hugo including: a telephone operator, secretary at the High School, waitress at the local restaurant and the purchasing agent for Lincoln Community Hospital. She was extremely active in the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) holding many local, state and national offices culminating in the National President in 1983-84. As president she was able to travel the world visiting many military bases and meeting high ranking officials, Generals, as well as President Ronald Reagan. Harriet loved life and lived it to the fullest. Her biggest joy was her five granddaughters. She thought the sun rose and set in those girls. Harriet was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Bill. Harriet is survived by her son Tom and his wife Nadine of Byers, CO and their children; Haley, Laureen and Whitney all of Colorado Springs, CO. Her daughter Margaret of Hanover, CO and her daughter Amanda and husband Ruben Torres of Colorado Springs, CO and Emily of Hanover, CO. She is also survived by one brother Mike and his wife Ilene of Albuquerque, NM, one niece and three nephews and sister-in-law Mary Elizabeth Lehnerz of Hugo, CO. A rosary was held Thursday, March 15, 2007, 7:00 pm at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Hugo, CO. A Mass of Christian burial was held for Harriet on Friday, March 16, 2007 at 10:30 am at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Father George Fagan officiating. Internment followed at the Evergreen Cemetery in Hugo, CO. Memorials are suggested to Hugo Fire Department P.O. Box 11, Hugo, CO 80821 or the Limon Ambulance Fund P.O. Box 374, Limon, CO 80828.
