Lee Sylvester Weisshaar was born on August 4, 1924 to Jakob and Imkea Westerbuhr Weisshaar in Wilcox, Nebraska. He was also baptized there.
When he was six years old, the family moved to Colorado, eventually settling in the Bethune Settlement. He was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in April of 1939.
After attending school through the eighth grade, he worked with his dad, farming on the family farm. He also broke a few colts for himself and the neighbors.
After a stint in the army, he came back to the farm. On December 15, 1946 at Immanuel Lutheran, Lee was united in marriage with Leona Mae Ziegler. To this union, six children were born â Ron, Donna, Roger, Kevin, Robin, and Dawson.
In 1955 because of drought conditions, Lee sold his farm equipment and took the family to Aurora, Colorado. There he attended barber school and the family lived off the sale money until he started earning income from barbering.
In 1958 Lee moved the family back to the Burlington area where he started and continued his lifeâs-long work of being a barber.
To help make ends meet on his off days, he was hired to shock feed, fix fence, drive tractor and other odd jobs. Later on he was a weekend farmer doing his own farming until he felt he could no longer continue working such long hours.
From the late 1970âs to 1984, supporting their children and the community, Lee and Leona spent their summer evenings serving concessions at the ball fields, while watching their sons and daughters-in-law play softball.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents, wife Leona, and siblings Harold Weisshaar and Alvina Guy.
He continued barbering until the day of his passing, March 23, 2007, at the age of 82, when he was called home by his Savior.
Lee is survived by his six children: son Ron & wife Jean of Burlington; daughter Donna Schauer & husband Fred of Clinton, Iowa; sons Roger, Kevin & wife Cindy, Robin & wife Tina, Dawson & wife Tamara all of Burlington; eighteen grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren: Will & Andi Weisshaar and Michael Nein of Julesburg, CO; Jeron & Jerilynn Weisshaar of Alma, KS; Tressie & Frankie Delgado and Sophia of Burlington; Tyson Weisshaar of Salina, KS; Carrie Weisshaar of Burlington; April Schauer of Littleton, CO; Dawn Schauer of Luray, VA; Dalton, Tara, and Desiree Weisshaar of Burlington; Sheila & Jay Piovarcy, Dylan and Quintin of Lawrenceburg, TN; Sommer & Chris Hornung and Alli of Brush, CO; Kassy, Kamron, and Kendall Weisshaar of Burlington; Skyler, DaMara and Ethan Weisshaar of Burlington. Lee was looking forward to the births of five more great-grandchildren later in 2007.
