Obituary of Don Monks
Donald Roy Monks, 71, of Limon, CO passed away in Denver, CO on March 25, 2007.
Donald was born on February 22, 1936 in Limon, CO to David and Frances (Taylor). Monks was one of four children. Don lived in Limon his entire life graduating from Limon High school in 1955. After graduation Don went to work for Rock Island Railroad and eventually became a Railroad Conductor.
On April 27, 1984 Don married Fern Arlene Watson in Trinidad, CO. This blended family now consisted of four sons.
Don liked working outdoors and taking care of others, especially seniors. He would rake their yards and clear their walks with his snow blower. A huge sports fan, Don loved to watch the Denver Avalanche, Nuggets, and Rockies. But nothing compared to the Denver Broncos. Don truly enjoyed watching the kids play their sports. And, the neighborhood kids knew where to go to get popsicles and sodas. He was a lifetime member of United Transportation Union. Along with Donâs service with the Army he was also a grateful Patriot to his nation.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and Grandma Taylor.
Don is survived by his wife Fern of Limon, CO, sons; Duane (Irene) Monks of San Diego, CA, Allen (Susan) Monks of Annandale, NJ, Judith Williams of Buffalo, WY, mother of Duane and Allen. Rodney (Micheli) Watson of Strasburg, CO and Wesley Watson of Sterling, CO. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Lou (Raymond) Johnson of Gilbert, AZ and Joan (David) Solomon of Henderson, NV and brother Tom (Gail) Monks of Franktown, CO. Grandchildren; Kyle, Mecale, and Melanie Davis, Cody Monks, Kenny and Andy Watson, great-grandchildren; Kaylee, Amillia, London, Gracie and Tyler, and many nieces and nephews. Don is also survived by his special friends; Harry Thompson, Larry Winkelman, Kenneth Neal, Kenneth Poorman, Aaron Metcalf and Jim Haug.
A Memorial Service for Don was held on Thursday, March 29, 2007, 3:00 P.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Limon, CO.
