Obituary of Joyce Lampe

Joyce I. Lampe was born July 26, 1925, on a farm southeast of St. Francis, KS, the daughter of James and Emma (Felzien) Bracelin. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, and was a member of the Lutheran church all her life. Joyce lived with her parents on a farm southeast of St. Francis, KS. She attended school at Sunny Ridge, a one room school house in the country. After her 8th grade graduation, her and her family moved into St. Francis. Joyce did babysitting, cleaned houses, and spent time in homes cooking for families. While working in St. Francis, she met Leland Lampe. In 1934, Leland graduated 8th grade and worked for his father on the farm and for other farmers shucking corn, driving tractors and trucks. In 1941, Leland went into the army. While he was overseas, Joyce worked in a defense plant at Stapleton Airport, Denver, CO. Leland was seriously wounded in the war and was hospitalized for seven months at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center in Denver. He was then discharged and on December 20, 1945, Joyce and Leland were united in marriage in St. Francis, KS. They lived on the Lampe farm southwest of St. Francis until February 1959, then moved to a farm 9 miles northwest of Kanorado, KS. In January 4, 1947, a daughter, Sareda, was born. Then on August 29, 1949, a daughter, Darla, was born. They both attended country grade school at East Gurney and later went to school in Burlington where they both graduated. In February 1966, Sareda married Larry Johnson, and two this union two sons were born, Lance and Brendon. Darla later moved to California, where she has spent all of her life since. On August 5, 1966, a daughter, Shauna, was born. While on the farm, Joyce helped Leland do chores, farm and take care of livestock. She enjoyed gardening, canning, and especially loved making jams and jellies. She cooked a lot of meals for relatives and friends and enjoyed having them all in her home. Joyce always made the best meals for the harvest crews out in the field. The family lived on the farm until 1980 when Leland semi retired and they moved to Burlington. Joyce enjoyed her home in town so much. She kept very busy with yard work, cooking and cleaning. In May 1990, Shauna married Dean Schreiter and to this union two children were born, Justin and Sydnee. Joyce’s greatest joys there came when Shauna and Dean moved back to Burlington and she and Leland got to be a huge part of Justin and Sydnee’s lives and were always graciously waiting to babysit or lend a helping hand when needed. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were truly the greatest joys of her life and she always looked forward to holidays and family get-togethers when she could entertain all of the family. Joyce had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed the Halloween holiday the most. She had a room full of costumes which everyone knew about and enjoyed dressing up and borrowing her costumes. Joyce and Leland loved to have fun and enjoyed spending time with their friends over the years taking many trips with them. Joyce was a member of Happy Hours Club in Burlington, the “Fat Ladies” Club in Kanorado and the Red Hat Society in Burlington. One of Joyce’s greatest loves was music. She was musically talented and played several instruments by ear, and was an extremely good piano player. Even in her final months at Grace Manor, Joyce always looked forward to the music groups and singing they had there so she could “sing along”. Joyce will be remembered most by her daughters, son-in-laws, grandchildren and great grandchildren for being hard working, especially sweet and caring, funny, and a very good cook. She made every family get-together special. Joyce departed this life on September 23, 2015. She is survived by her daughters, Sareda (Larry) Johnson of Frederick, CO, Darla Lampe of Magalia, CA and Shauna (Dean) of Burlington, CO, grandchildren Lance (Katie) Johnson of Frederick, CO, Brendon (Julie) Johnson of Berthoud, CO, Justin Schreiter of Cheyenne Wells, CO, Sydnee Schreiter of Ft.
