Obituary of Irene Monnahan

View Video Tribute (Elva) Irene (Teeters) Monnahan, 88, died on Saturday, August 4, 2007 at Sunset Manor in Brush, CO. Irene was born on September 6, 1918 in Sons Creek Hill (Neola), Dade County, MO to Arthur Garfield and Adelia (Duncan) Teeters. She had three brothers; Asa Raymond, Herschel Louie, and (Eulie) Estel. She graduated from Deer Trail High School in 1936 and was married to Paul Joseph Monnahan on February 7, 1938 in Littleton, CO. The couple had three sons and one daughter and lived most of their lives on a ranch/farm east of Deer Trail, CO. Upon Paul’s death in November 22, 2000 they had been married 62 years. Irene was an avid gardener; flower beds surrounded her home and the house windows were filled with succulents, cacti, African Violets and many other varieties. She made terrariums in glass jars and gave them to friends or sold them at the county fairs. Her green thumb extended to her large vegetable garden. Irene “put upâ€? many jars of vegetables, fruits, jellies, jams and meats to provide for her family through the winter months. She loved to bake for her family breads, cookies, cakes and pies. Many family dinners were held at her home. As her children started their own families, she would fill her table with area relatives and dear friends. She enjoyed her grandchildren teaching them card games and exploring the outdoors on nature walks. She loved to crochet doilies, rag rugs, snowflakes and bookmark crosses. Irene is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, husband, and two grandchildren; Sandra Lynn Monnahan and Grant King. She is survived by her three sons; John Arthur (Arlene) and Alden Herschel of Deer Trail, CO and James Paul (Cheryl) of Rubicon, WI; and daughter, Rose Mary Irene (Bob) King; 10 grandchildren; Brenda (Mike) Geesen, Kay (Joe) Lindsay, Trenda Monnahan, Shylee (Tim) Ackman, Marcy (Alan) Wheatley, Shanle (Phillip) Donovan, Sheila (Ryan) Parker, Stacy (Tony) Brakob, John (Jenny) Monnahan, and Adam (Melody) King; 12 great-grandchildren, Dean Geeesen, Donna (Cody) Charmasson, Kelsey (Matt) Owens, Clayton Lindsay, Bailey Monnahan, Audrey Wheatley, Kennedy Donovan, Alexandria Donovan, Miranda Parker, Amiah Brakob, Brooklyn King and Brady King; one great-great granddaughter, Peyton Owens; one Godson, Bill Edwards; and special friend, Nalla Hansen. The service will be at Deer Trail School ~ Thursday ~ August 09, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery following the service. Memorials can be sent to Evergreen Cemetery P.O.
