Obituary of Cody Pelton

View Video Tribute Lifelong Cheyenne Wells, Colorado resident Cody Alan Pelton passed away unexpectedly on November 8, 2007 after injuries he incurred following a single car accident. He was 19 years old. Cody blessed our presence on September 29, 1988 born to Shane and Lana (Erker) Pelton. He was the youngest of four children. Cody was baptized as an infant at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cheyenne Wells. Cody attended school in the Cheyenne Wells School District and graduated from Cheyenne Wells High School in 2007. Cody had a love for golf, FFA, FBLA, making people laugh, speaking his mind and working on cars. He also enjoyed helping his dad with various jobs along with everyone else he knew. At the time of Cody’s death, he was employed by Halde Concrete in Burlington as a truck driver concrete man, a job, in which he really loved to do. During his senior year in high school, he worked for C&K Oil doing various mechanic and tire changing jobs, which he also enjoyed doing. Along with these jobs, he did his auto body jobs in the paint booth he finally talked his dad into building in his shop. However, dad didn’t help do much of the building. He spent hours out in the shop doing all these jobs. If you couldn’t find him in the house or cruising with his friends or at the grain bins, you could find him in the shop. As a small kid, Cody could always get us to laugh. When he would do something funny & we would start to laugh he would always say “Don’t laugh at meâ€? which would make us laugh even more. When he got in trouble which was a lot, he would just tell his mom “I know, go to my roomâ€?, and off he would go. One summer, while dad was gone on harvest, and had gotten back home we were all sitting at the dinner table and the kids were talking about the movie Ace Ventura Pet Detective, and trying to explain to dad how Jim Carey would talk with his butt—so Cody proceeded to get up from the dinner table and show dad how he talked with his butt! Well of course, mom and the kids laughed, but dad wasn’t to sure about what mom was letting the kids watch on TV while he was gone. When Cody started to pre-school, Traci Walker was his teacher, and he went to pre-school for two years because he was bored. So when he was to go to kindergarten, he wouldn’t go, because Ms. Walker wasn’t going to be his teacher. However, after he met Mrs. Spencer, he was fine with having a new teacher. The first time we went to Lake Powell for vacation the kids were using water guns and throwing water balloons, Cody was running and ran right into the screen door, it took them both out. He got up and shook it off and said “I thought the door was open.â€? One other time we went he caught a fish with Uncle Kirby, and he was so proud of that fish. He loved to ride the jet skis and probably got to wild on them, but whatever. While we were building our house he would call mom at the flower shop and see if dad was working on the house. Even if dad wasn’t there yet he would ride the 4-wheeler down and start on something he knew needed done. He was the monkey to climb the rafters and help his cousin Byron pull wires to put in the electricity. Actually he still would climb the rafters in the garage to change the light bulbs for mom. Cody was a real entrepreneur, building his snow cone shack without any mishaps, but when it came time to build the paint booth he nailed his fingers together with an air nail gun. Christmas of o6’ Cody showed us how good he looked in Carli’s bikini bottom. While we were all shooting pool and having fun, Cody said he was going to go sit in the hot tub. When he came out of the bathroom he flashed us with Carli’s bikini bottoms on. We were so stunned we couldn’t even get a picture of him. He ducted back into the bathroom and then made a mad dash to his room sporting her bikini top also. And we still couldn’t stop laughing fast enough to get a picture. When he finally went to the hot tub he actually was wearing his own swimming trunks. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandmother Mae Pelton, one uncle Sid Pelton and a cousin Patrick Brooks. He is survived by his parents Shane and Lana Pelton of Cheyenne Wells, one brother Michael Pelton of Cheyenne Wells, and two sisters Danielle Pelton of Colorado Springs, and Nicole Halde and her husband Mike, and their children Max, Makayla and Connor of Cheyenne Wells. He is also survived by his maternal grandparents, his paternal grandfather, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Funeral services for Cody were held on Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at 10:30 AM at the Cheyenne Wells Community Building with Father Kuzma officiating. Burial followed in the Fairview Cemetery in Cheyenne Wells.
