Obituary of Leona Jacobsen

Longtime resident, Leona Evelyn Jacobsen passed away on November 11, 2007 at the Grace Manor Care Center in Burlington, Colorado. She was 94 years old. Leona Evelyn Wilhelmina (Reich) Jacobsen was born on April 3, 1913 to Arthur Frank Reich and Clara Anna Gustevia Seig in Howard Lake, Minnesota. Out of the five siblings she was the oldest child born to this union. She grew up and went to school in Howard Lake graduating from high school in June 1932 in Elk River, Minnesota. Later in life she met Harry John Jacobsen and they married on June 7, 1939 in Zimmerman, Minnesota. To this union two sons were born, Richard in January of 1941 and Vernon (Jake) in June 1943 in Elk River, Minnesota. They later made their home on the farm in Blackduck, Minnesota until Harryâs death in 1984. After a few years on the farm alone Evelyn moved to Burlington, Colorado to be next to her sons and their families. Her hobbies included many things such as gardening, crocheting, knitting, fishing, bowling, crafts and later calling bingo for the Senior Center. She loved her garden and putting up jars of various fruits and vegetables every year. Her African violets were her favorite flowers which she was very proud to display. Evelyn loved to have you stop by for coffee or tea and visit or play some cards. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Frank Reich and Clara Anna Sieg, her husband Harry on June 22, 1984, one son Richard Jacobsen on October 28, 1997, brother Vernon Reich and sister Luverne Reich Jacobsen. Evelyn is survived by her son Vernon (Jake) Jacobsen and his wife Joyce; grandson Leland Jacobsen and his wife Alison, great grandchildren Jessica, Malaree, Mirranda, Tyrel, Chelsea, Clayton and Cody all of Burlington, Colorado; granddaughter Kimberly Jacobsen, great grandchildren Matthew, Kaitlyn, Angela and Leanne of Jensen, Utah; granddaughter Kristine (Jacobsen) Weaver and her husband Rod, great grandchildren Logan and Dusty of Vernal, Utah. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law Jeannette; granddaughter Bridgit (Jacobsen) Spencer, great grandchildren Devin and Jenna; granddaughter Rebecca Jacobsen all of Fort Collins, Colorado; grandson David Jacobsen and his wife Shannon of Denver, Colorado; granddaughter Erin (Jacobsen) Williams and her husband Cody of Wellington, Colorado. She is survived by her sisters Vernice (Dolly) and her husband Leland Coe of Tenstrike, Minnesota and Harriette Wingren of Brownsville, Oregon along with numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Visitation services were held on Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Love Funeral Home in Burlington, Colorado. Graveside services and burial were held in Zimmerman, Minnesota on Saturday, November 17, 2007 at 12:00 PM. Memorials may be made in her name and may be left at the Bank of Burlington in Burlington, Colorado.
