Norman Ray Zogg, son of George and Gretchen (Bowers) Zogg, was born May 6, 1931 at his parentâs farm north of Stratton, CO. He attended Plainview Country School the first eight grades and graduated from Stratton High School in 1949. In high school, he drove his Model A car and took neighbor kids to school. He worked for neighboring farms during the summer and springtime. He met Shirley when they were attending high school and were married on March 2, 1952. Janet Beth was born to this union and five years later Patricia Lynn was born. The family lived south of Stratton, where Norm worked for his father-in-law Herb Scheierman. In 1965, he started farming and running livestock, as well as order buying for himself and other ranchers. In 1976, they moved to Goodland, Kansas, where they bought and ran the Goodland Livestock Company. Following that, he went to work for the City of Goodland, where he was the caretaker of the cemetery. After retiring from the City of Goodland, he returned to his roots, farming for a local farmer.
Norm loved animals his entire life. He spent hours with his first horse Tony. In his adult life, he had a wide variety of animals. On Sunday afternoons, many friends and family would come to the farm to ride horses, play with the puppies, and see all the different animals Norm had brought home. Some folks referred to it as Zoggâs Zoo.
In March 2002, Norm and Shirley celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, and later that year they moved to Burlington, Colorado. Children were always a big part of Normâs life. It began when he and Shirley became foster parents, and that love carried over to the grandchildren and neighbor kids. Many hours were devoted to Little League Ball games, board games, fishing and bike rides. In his later years he enjoyed working in his yard, wood working and painting. Norm received Christ as his personal Savior in the summer of 1951 at a revival meeting at the Vona Baptist Church. Norm was actively involved in church his adult life, helping teach Sunday school as well as serving as a lay leader.
Norm passed away on December 11, 2007 at the Grace Manor Care Center after a lengthy illness with Alzheimerâs.
Norm was preceded in death by his father George and his mother Gretchen. He is survived by his wife Shirley of the home, his daughter Jan Churchwell and her husband Bob and their children Clint, Ryan, Raelyn and her husband Will Sparks, Stan, April, Lesley, Isaiah, Josh, Sarah, Brandy and Avery, his daughter Trish Busby and her husband Doug and their children Cassie Dorsch, Jared Dorsch, Jeremy Busby and his wife Cary and their children Steven and Leah, and Tish and her husband Grant Havel and their children Frank and Bob.
