Obituary of Shirley Tarver
Shirley Jean Donnell was born in Swisher County Texas to Robert and Nora Donnell on January 1, 1922 at their home in Puddinâ Flats, Texas. She was an only child and is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Roy Preston Tarver, Sr.
Shirley graduated from high school in Canyon, TX and spent two years attending West Texas State. Later she went to Washington D.C. to work at the Pentagon as a clerk for the War Department. Returning to Texas she married Roy Preston Tarver, Sr. on May 1, 1942.
Shirley and Roy raised their children and spent most of their married life in Limon, CO. Following a stroke in 1998, Shirley spent the past nine years in the Sunny Vista Living Center in Colorado Springs, CO where she passed away on December 30, 2007 of pneumonia.
Shirley and Roy had nine children of their own and two foster children. Shirley dedicated her life to her family and many outside of the family knew her as âMomâ?. She reveled in her childrenâs accomplishments and loved hearing âMom, Mom, guess whatâ¦â?. Her life surrounded by her family was her greatest love. She is survived by her children including; Roy P. Tarver, Jr. (wife Donna), Larry J. Tarver (wife Leta), Peggy Glasgow (husband Scotty), Don Tarver (wife Diana), Susan Irwin (husband Robin), David Tarver (wife Kathi), Tracy Tarver (wife Jeannie), Andrew (Andy) Tarver (wife Heidi), Jan Snavely (husband Mike), foster children Ruben Campbell (wife Terri) and Louis Campbell Jr.. Shirley is also survived by 25 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
Shirley had quite a sense of humor and loved to garden, write poems, stories, prayers and although she wasnât able to spend as much time at her hobbies she also was an artist and left behind pictures for her family to enjoy.
Shirley was laid to rest on January 4, 2008 in Limon, CO at the Pershing Cemetery after a funeral service at the Methodist Church in Limon. Shirleyâs pallbearers were grandsons Jerome Humrich, Tony Humrich, Chris Humrich, Aaron Tarver, Mathew Tarver, Brian Tarver, Jay Tarver, Mark Tarver and Adam Tarver.
