Obituary of Vida Bloder

View Video Tribute Vida Olive Cox Bloder was born October 31, 1914 on the Cox homestead near Twisp, Washington and passed away on April 01, 2008 in her home at the age of 93. She was the fifth of nine children of Fred Walter and Flara May Keller Cox. When Vida was nearly 4 years old, the family moved from Washington to the southeastern part of Kansas. Here she grew up and attended school. She graduated from Crowburg Elementary School in May, 1928 at the age of 13. The family with the 5 youngest children moved to Colorado arriving at a farm they rented north of Kit Carson on April 3, 1931. They lived there for several years. Vida helped her mother with the daily chores, including gardening, canning, quilting, cooking, etc. She also worked for John and Ardella Orr and for Joseph and Rosa Bloder. It was here that she became better acquainted with their son, Leon. Vida and Leon Bloder were married on April 3, 1933 by Rev. Peterson, the Baptist minister of Flagler, CO with Leon’s brother Joe and wife, Myrtle, as witnesses. They owned their own home 18 miles south of Seibert, raising 2 children, Wilma Jean and Fred Leon. Vida also raised chickens, had a nice garden and did a lot of canning. Vida joined the E.U.B. Church of Seibert. Upon retiring in 1972 they bought a house in Colorado Springs but the farm continued to be referred to as “HOMEâ€?. After Leon died in 1978, Vida continued living in Colorado Springs taking care of her place, the yard, and enjoyed visiting many friends who had moved to the Springs, making new friends, and spending a lot of time with her daughter and her nearby grandson, Frank, and his family. She also traveled to Florida many a Christmas to spend time with her son Fred and family, and a trip to West Virginia to visit granddaughter Sue and her family. In 1984 she had a very memorable trip to Twisp, WA, and found the old homestead where she was born. She was accompanied by her daughter, Jeannie and husband, Ron, and son Fred. She became a member of the W.O.W. Club, the Grandmothers Club and the Pikes Peak Methodist Church. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and will be sadly missed by her daughter, Wilma Jean, son Fred and wife Dale, grandchildren, Rosa Suzanne Lang and husband Michael, Frank Angel and wife Lori, Leon Bloder and wife Merideth, and great grandchildren, Louise Entsminger, Brian Lang, Jennifer Angel, Benjamin Angel, George Fredrick (Jay) Bloder, and Jackson Lee Bloder, as well as nieces, nephews, and many friends and neighbors.
