Obituary of Richard Stoll

Richard Vernon Stoll, 92, of Elbert County, passed away on November 3, 2015. Richard was born on the family homestead north of Ramah, one of five children, to Henry and Clara Stoll on November 14, 1922. A farm boy whose love of the land and animals led him to a lifelong occupation as a Colorado cattle rancher. Richard remained involved in tending to the farm until recently, due to a brief series of health issues. He was a lifelong member of the Colorado Farm Bureau and was presented with the Outstanding Conservation Farmers award in 1995. After spending a full day farming and ranching, Richard enjoyed time with his favorite dog, reading periodicals and watching "60 Minutes" on Sunday evenings. Some of his favorite pastimes included a competitive game of Chinese checkers and attending the Calhan livestock auction. When he wasn't working, he was sure to entertain family by giving them the full farm experience when they visited. Spring calves, a few good rains, a fair hay crop, a solid day's work and a memorable story or two about his love of horses made life for this cowboy full and meaningful. Preceding him in death were his parents (Henry and Clara Stoll), 2 sisters (Irma Harper and Emily Knapp) and his only brother (Lee Stoll). Survivors include a sister, Elsie Coleman of Kansas and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
