Rodella Boren

Obituary of Rodella Boren

Lifelong Kit Carson County resident, Rodella Boren, passed away on May 12, 2008. Rodella Henrietta (Hase) Boren was born March 11, 1917 on a farm northeast of Stratton, Colorado to Charles Bryson Hase and Margaret Sophia (Watson) Hase. As a young girl, Rodella excelled in academics and graduated one year early from Seibert High School, Class of 1934. It was her love of music and dancing which lead her to a barn dance one evening, where Rodella met a dashing young man named Charles Henry Boren. On June 25, 1934, Rodella and Charles united in marriage in Burlington, Colorado. She and Charles made a ranch northeast of Seibert, Colorado on the Republican River their beloved home for the next 60 years. Their marriage began during The Depression Era and shortly after The Great Flood of 1935; they were blessed by the birth of their first child. To this union 5 children were born; Charles Henry, Jr., Roger Lee, Sharon Kay, Gary Ray and Carolyn Sue. In the late 1950’s Rodella became active in politics, a passion which she enjoyed for nearly 20 years. Right away she accepted a position working on John F. Kennedy’s Campaign for Presidency. When John F. Kennedy was elected as the nation’s thirty-fifth President of the United States her contributions were recognized as she and her husband received an invitation to his inaugural in Washington, D.C… Rodella also enjoyed attending many lunches at the Colorado Governor’s Mansion which were hosted by Marjory McNichols, former first lady of Colorado, as well as, serving on many election boards through the years. Rodella was a member of the Rebekah’s and the Order of the Eastern Star. She also enjoyed cards especially Bridge and Pitch. She was a member of local bridge clubs and played in countless tournaments. Rodella and her husband were avid bowlers and played mixed doubles for many years. Rodella always embraced the latest fashion. She loved clothes, high heels and lit up a room by just entering. Her laugh was infectious. Her love was kind. She was a devoted wife, Mother and Mee Mee (her affectionate nickname given by her grandchildren). She will be missed. Rodella is preceded in death by her husband: Charles Henry Boren, son: Roger Lee Boren, parents: Charles Bryson Hase and Margaret Sophia (Watson) Hase, siblings: Clyde, Howard, Leslie, Ferne, Virgil, Mildred, Daisy and Faith, son-in-law: Ray Richards.
