Obituary of Oscarena Schreivogel

Oscarena Dunlap Schreivogel was born November 19, 1918 to Oscar and Abbie (Cotter) Dunlap in Eads, Colorado. She left this world on May 12, 2008 at her home in Burlington, Colorado. Oscarena was raised at the Dunlap family ranch north of Eads, being the 7th of 9 children. She graduated from Eads High School in 1937 and continued her education at Western State College, obtaining a degree in Elementary Education. Returning to her home town of Eads, she taught school for three years. In November 1942, Oscarena married Clarence Schreivogel. Because of World War II they moved to Denver where Clarence was stationed at Lowry Air Force Base. The year 1946 brought them back to Kit Carson and Oscarena taught school for three years. Candia Rose was their first child born in 1950, followed by Vincent B in 1952 and Regina Beth in 1957. After Clarence’s sudden death in August 1963, Oscarena returned to teaching and taught in Kit Carson for five years. In 1968, she accepted a teaching position with the Burlington Public Schools, 2nd grade and taught for sixteen years. In 1984, she retired. Oscarena was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Merwin, Dorothy, Glen, Catherine, Morris, Helen and Eddie. She is survived by her children Candia (Ray) Beethe, Vince (Jana) Schreivogel, Regina Sommers, five grandchildren, Jessica (Bobby) Fisher, Andrea (Darin) Moss, Lanie Schreivogel and her fiancé Dustin Ridder, Joshua Sommers and friend Mallorie and Justin Sommers. Six great grandchildren, one sister, Bennie Lou Kashuda of New Jersey, sister-in-law, Geraldine Dunlap of Tribune, Kansas and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Schreivogel will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2008 at 10:00 AM at the St. Catherine’s Catholic Church with Father Ernie Bond officiating. A graveside service will be held in the Kit Carson Cemetery. Memorial may be made in her name to the Caring Hands of Hospice or the Burlington Elementary School Reading Program and may be left at the Kit Carson State Bank in Burlington, Colorado.
