Obituary of Floyd Martin

Floyd Albert Martin was born on July 19, 1921, on a farm 6 miles north of Genoa, Colorado to Albert August Martin and Carolina (Lena) Hem Martin. There were five children born to this union; Violet, Luella, twins Floyd and Lloyd, and Lonabelle. He was confirmed into the Lutheran Church by Pastor Shabacker in 1937. That same year, the family moved to Genoa where Floyd graduated from the Genoa School in 1941. Floyd was drafted into the United States Army on September 2, 1942, and served with the 892’’ Ordinance Ham Company in the Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged on December 16, 1945. On May 27, 1951, Floyd married Maybelle Marie Hendricks at Trinity Lutheran Church in Genoa, Colorado. Floyd and Maybelle were blessed with three sons: Paul, Harvey, and Stanley. Floyd was a lifelong farmer in Lincoln County, driving a combine for roughly 53 years. He was also an accomplished carpenter, building the family a new home north of Genoa in 1968. Maybelle passed away in 1984. Floyd traveled a lot from 1990 to 2004. He toured all the states west of the Mississippi, 6 states east of the Mississippi and Mexico 5 times. Throughout his adult life, Floyd farmed in the summer and worked as a carpenter and mail carrier in the winter. He was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, a member of the Genoa Legion, Hugo VFW and a Life Member of the National Rifle Association. He is preceded in death by his wife Maybelle, both parents, his twin brother Lloyd, and sisters; Luella Henderson and Lonabelle Matthews. Floyd is survived sister Violet Gale of Denver, sons Paul (Mardelle), Harvey (Lisa), and Stanley (Donna) Martin all of rural Genoa. His grandchildren include, Imogene (Jeremiah) of Genoa, Jennifer Martin of Genoa, James Martin of Gunnison, Joel Martin of Laramie WY, Lena and Carl Martin of Genoa and Mason and Jake Martin. He has three great-grandsons: Tyler, Evan and Dylan Higgins all of Genoa and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on May 24, 2008 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Genoa, CO with Pastor Donald Schultz officiating. Interment was at the Lutheran Cemetery in Genoa, Colorado. Memorials can be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or the Genoa Legion, in care of Paul Martin 31320 CR 3K, Genoa, CO 80818, or Lincoln Community Hospice P.O. Box 248, Hugo, Colorado 80821. Visitation will be held on Friday ~ May 23, 2008 ~ 1-4 P.M. at the Love Funeral Home, Limon, CO.
