Alvin's Collecting Passions - April 26, 2012
Posted: April 27, 2012 | Last Revised: April 27, 2012
Alvin was our neighbor and I first met him while oiling and pair of chaps in my back yard. His kitchen window looked straight out at our back yard. It wasn't long and he was a buying all sorts of antiques. He liked any old Cowboy or Farming stuff that he could display in his barn or the house. Julia made sure the better things went into the house, and she sure watched his dirty shoes. Julia ruled the house, Alvin ruled the barn. That barn had three levels, and it was full of his things. Anyway, here is a story he told me.
Alvin's Dad gave all his children a section of land. Alvin was not his Dad's favorite so Alvin got the worst piece of ground. That didn't bother him too much but it was a rough piece to farm. So some years later a pretty nice oil well was hit on that property and Alvin had the mineral rights. If you knew Alvin, you would know he was a generous man which proves in the long run that you reap what you sow. My only child was born and lived her first 2 years as a neighbor to Alvin & Julia, Alvin bought many antiques from me during that time, and continued to buy from me years later, Alvin was more than generous and I hope we meet again. I never knew Alvin personally and never met him in person. But I was his newspaper carrier and he was very kind to me for my service to him. I was disappointed when I had to lose him as a customer. My condolences to his family.

Kathleen--We got to know your Dad when he was Dad's neighbor at Grace Manor. He was a grand guy! He always knew that on Tuesdays that I played during their lunch & he enjoyed hearing the old songs. Once he told me that he never thought he'd ever hear those songs again.
