Obituary of Alice Kravig

View Video Tribute Alice Denice Kravig, 51, of La Junta, Colorado, formerly of Karval, Colorado, passed away on September 19, 2008, in Pueblo. Denice was born October 26, 1956, in Rocky Ford, Colorado, to Mahlon and Bernice Kravig. She was the youngest of three daughters. She graduated from Karval High School in 1975 and from Otero Jr. College in 1984 with an Associates Degree. She later attended art classes at Otero Jr. College, which led to her love of art and the discovery of a wonderful God given talent of which she shared generously with her family. She was also a talented poet. Denice was honored in the Who’s Who of American Junior Colleges in 1984. Listed was her participation in Phi Theta Kappa; Psychology Club; Affirmative Action Committee; Community Choir; VBS Teacher; and Title One Reading Program Assistant. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in both Blue Cliff and Fowler and served as editor of the church newsletter for Blue Cliff and Hugo - The Good News. Denice was trained and served as a Stephen Minister. Service to her church was an important part of her life. Denice loved her family very much and especially enjoyed her nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. She thought of them almost as her own children. She delighted in hearing funny stories of their escapades and shared the stories with anyone who had a moment to listen. Denice was preceded in death by her father, Mahlon Kravig. She is survived by her mother, Bernice Kravig, of La Junta, and her two sisters, Chris and Marty Fleischacker of Swink, Colorado, and Luetta and Rick Locke of Newbury Park, California. Denice is also survived by nieces and nephews -- Jeff Dutro, his wife Cheryl and their combined family, Matthew, Jonothan, Cameron and Kelli; Michelle and her husband D.J. Jones and their children, Skyler and Colby; Rick Locke, Jr. and his wife Sandy and daughter Serenity; Tiffany and Mike Mulligan and daughters Makenzie and Mandy. She was loved and will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at the Karval School. Visitation will be held Tuesday September 23, 2008 from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Karval Community Club in care of Vernon Stone, 26091 County Road V, Hugo, Colorado 80821 or the Otero County Health Department Personal Homecare Program 13 W 3rd St. Room 111 La Junta, CO 81050.
