Obituary of Betty Hostetler

Longtime Seibert, Colorado, resident Elizabeth Louise “Bettyâ€? Hostetler passed away on September 20, 2008, at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Denver, Colorado. She was 80 years old. Betty was born on December 20, 1927, to LeRoy Lash and Florence Pearl (Mitchell) Chaffin in Inavale, Nebraska. On January 15, 1946, she married John Loyd “Shortyâ€? Hostetler in Colby, Kansas. Their total life together was spent on the ranch northwest of Seibert, Colorado where Betty continued to live until her death. To this union 3 sons were born: Larry John, David Leroy, and Brent Lee. Betty was a homemaker and a great cook for most of her life. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and Extension Homemakers. She enjoyed her many friends in the Home Demonstration Club. She was instrumental in starting the Bookmobile in the area and spent approximately twenty years on that board. Betty also attended the Trinity Hill Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister Golda Boggs, daughter-in-law Darice Hostetler, and her half sister Patty Scott. Left to mourn her passing are: her sons, Larry Hostetler of Burlington Colorado; David Hostetler of Seibert; Brent Hostetler of Seibert; five Grandchildren: Heather Schlosser and her husband Cary, Ryan Hostetler, Scott Ezell, Melissa Ezell, and Alec Hostetler; one great granddaughter, Arwen Rose Ezell; one brother Jack Chaffin and his wife Shirley of Lincoln, NE; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Betty Hostetler were held on Sept 24, 2008, at 1:30 P.M. at the Trinity Hill church in Seibert, Colorado, with Pastor James Ruetsch officiating. Burial followed in the Flagler Cemetery in Flagler, Colorado. Visitation was held from 12:30-1:30 at the church on Wednesday. Memorial may be made in her name to the International Hearing Dog, Inc., and may be sent to 5901 E. 89th Ave., Henderson, CO 80640-8315. This was something Betty’s wrote recently: “Florence and Bill Bartlett, my stepfather, moved 7 miles north on highway 59 and ½ mile west (we moved from Orleans, NE.), or 1 mile south and ½ mile west of the Charles Borens’ (everyone called him Dad Boren – he was Cecil’s father). There were 2 trees on the place and a 3 room house. The fences were covered with dirt from blowing fields, “the dust bowlâ€?. Lillian & Lewis Reids lived about 2 miles west of us and went to Prairie Gem School. Their children were Orlen, David, Lavada, Roger, and Rex. I remember they raised turkeys and would run them on the prairie to catch grasshoppers and then “corral them at nightâ€?. Sometimes the Reids, who were Mormons, had Sunday School at East Fair Haven and sometimes had special speakers. I remember they used to have PTA at Prairie Gem and it was the highlight of the months. It seems that Kyle girl was teacher there. I think her name was Mamie. One year the pupils from East Fair Haven and the Progress school, which was farther north and east, went together for their Christmas program. Edith Boren (Mrs. Earl Boren) brought an angel food cake which was the first one I ever tasted. It was delicious! Myrle Cowgill also taught at East Fair Haven.â€?
