âA Letter from Usâ?
Our dad was Doug Witzel. He was born November 22, 1958 in Burlington, Colorado, the oldest child of Dean and Bonnie (Dobler) Witzel. He was raised on the family farm south of town with sister Dena and brother Donn. Our dad developed a deep passion for cattle and agriculture while growing up on the farm. He was a member of the Sunshine 4-H club. Dad grew up learning that a strong work ethic is essential to life. Dad never stopped trying to please.
Dadâs proudest accomplishment in school was being the center on the 1976 state champion, Burlington Cougar football team. Dad closest friends were John, Charlie, Kevin and Byron. Charlie, Byron, and Kevin, introduced dad to clipping and fitting registered show cattle when he was younger. He traveled with the guys across the country clipping and fitting cattle, while at the same time, establishing life long friendships.
Our memories with our dad are on the farm. Dad trusted Maggie with responsibility and duty. I, Molly, hated for dad to be lonely. I never missed a chance to go with him. Mack shared his imagination and creative ideas, always challenging dad to look at a different perspective.
Our dad and mom, Joyce, were married on October 5, 1984. Together, they built a home filled with love and support. Together, we have all thrived and struggled. Together, we have all experienced love, peace and heartache. Together, we are a family, never to be separated. Dad worked hard to make sure that we were always taken care of.
On January 29, 2009 he went home to rest with the Lord.
Daddy, you donât have to work so hard and you donât have to be tired anymore.
