Obituary of Walter Hasz

Walter C. Hasz, age 90, former resident of Flagler, CO passed away July 21, 2009 in Greeley, CO.
Walter was born August 16, 1918 in North Dakota to Reinhold and Fredricka (Felcher) Hasz. He was one of thirteen children. He was the first generation to settle in Allendale, ND from the old country, and he stayed there for about fifteen years. The family then moved from Allendale, ND to Scott City, KS living four and a half miles North West of town.
Walter graduated from Scott City High School in 1936. In 1939 he married Goldie May Lyman to this union four children were born, two sons and two daughters. During the war period, Walter worked as a Long Shoreman in San Francisco, CA. Following the war he spent a short time in the Orchards of Sacramento, CA.
Around 1941 Walter moved a half a mile West of Flagler, CO and purchased 900 acres of land North of Arriba. In 1948 Walter built the house, with it now being the original Homestead.
Walter never knew a stranger and didnât have a mean bone in his body. He loved his family very much and especially adored his grand children. He was a family man in every sense of the word. Walter also enjoyed spending time trout fishing and hunting.
Walter farmed the first thirty years of his life, in addition to farming he helped his brother with his well drilling business in Scott City, KS; serving a large area of Nebraska, Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma and Colorado. Later on, Walter sold center pivots servicing Eastern Colorado for many years also working as a crop adjuster for producers.
After Goldie passed away Walter spent his time traveling to see his children. He was a devoted Christian attending The Assembly of God Church in Broken Arrow, OK where he was very loved and appreciated.
Walter is preceded in death by his parents, wife, seven brothers, three sisters, foster brother, one grandson, twin granddaughters and son in-law.
Walter is survived by his son, Jack wife Jackie Hasz of Flagler, CO and son, Gary wife Carol Hasz of Tulsa, OK; daughter, Jeanette Schwartz of Broken Arrow, OK Rita Riddle of Greeley, CO. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, sisters Leona Vogel of Denver, CO and Ruth Brook of CA.
A funeral service for Walter Hasz will be held Wednesday ~ July 29, 2009 ~ 10:30 A.M. at the Flagler Baptist Church ~ Flagler, CO.
Visitation will be held Tuesday ~ July 28, 2009 from 1:00 - 4:00 P.M. at the Love Funeral Home Limon, Colorado.
