Obituary of Charles Allis
Charles Oliver Allis, 88, of Littleton, CO passed away on September 19, 2009 at Life Care Center of Littleton.
Charles was born on November 22, 1920 in Colorado Springs, CO to John Reynor Allis and Anna Urbane Schillinger, the third of four children. He spent most of his youth in Louviers, CO where he and his family lived in the train depot as his father was the depot agent. He graduated from Douglas County High School in 1940. Charles then moved to Long Beach, CA to work for Douglas Aircraft Company building airplanes for the war effort. He enlisted in the US Army in April of 1942 and served until January of 1946, much of this time in the Army Air Corp in North Africa.
Charles married Nellie Mariee Jones on December 2, 1943 in Littleton, CO and the couple was blessed with three children, Shirley, Jackie & Charles. After WW II Charles and Nellie made their home farming and ranching south of Littleton, CO. Charles spent summers farming south of Hugo from 1973 until he retired in 1986. He loved the 40 years he spent farming and continued to stay interested in the years to follow. He also liked to collect coins and stamps, and enjoyed traveling. He was a member of the Douglas County Historical Society and enjoyed being interviewed for oral history of the area.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, wife Nellie, sister Mildred Cox and brother George Allis.
He is survived by his son Charles and wife Marlys Allis of Hugo, CO and their children Laura and Mark, daughter Shirley and husband Jerry Lehl of Montrose, CO and their children Daniel, Dana and Debra and daughter Jackie Allis of Littleton, CO, one sister Leta Roach of Denton, TX and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials are suggested to the Hugo Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 178, Hugo, CO 80821 in lieu of flowers.
