Obituary of Dave Harrel
Ralph David Harrel was born on August 13, 1945, in Pratt, Kansas to Ralph and Gertrude Regier Harrel. He was the oldest of five children. Dave grew up in the Cairo Community, 10 miles east of Pratt, during his early life. He was baptized and joined the Cairo Methodist Church on March 16, 1958. Dave attended Cairo School from the first through the eighth grade. He attended Preston High School, graduating in 1963. Then he received hi A.A. degree from Pratt Junior College in May of 1965. It was in the summer of â65 when the Harrel family moved to Colorado. They bought a house in Ft. Collins, so Dave and Bob could attend Colorado State University. Dave did not enjoy school much, so it was decided that Dave and his dad would move to Burlington, where other relatives lived, and open an implement company. At first, they sold used farm equipment from a small trailer house. Later, they expanded and sold new Case, Massey Ferguson, Steiger, Big Bud and other equipment lines. Dave and his family were also involved in farming, custom harvesting, and other farming related ventures. Dave was a member of the First Christian Church in Burlington. Dave passed away February 1, 2006 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was 60 years old. His family and friends will miss his stories and phone calls, and most of all his great sense of humor. Dave is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, Arthur E. and Olive Mary Harrel, and John F. and Kate Regier. He is survived by two brothers, Bob and his wife Dorendo, son Scott and his wife Deborah, and twin daughters Wren and Avery; Jerry and his wife Becky and their children Brady, Cory, Chelsea, Casey, Tiffany and her children Isaiah and Viviana; and two sisters Mary Allacher and her children Michael, Kerrie and Kristin, all of Burlington, and Jan and her husband Dan Hurley and their children Jessie, Audrey, and Bo of Cibalo, Texas. Funeral services for Mr. Harrel were held on Monday, February 6, 2006 at the First Christian Church in Burlington with Pastor Ralph Datema officiating. Burial followed in the Fairview Cemetery in Burlington. Visitation was held on Sunday, February 05, 2006 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Love Funeral Home in Burlington. Memorials may be made in Daveâs name to the Tri-State Kidney Dialysis Center and may be left at the Bank of the West in Burlington.
