Obituary of Leslie Tanner

View Video Tribute Lifelong Vona, Colorado resident Leslie K. Tanner, age 95, died Saturday October 11, 2008 at the Kit Carson County Memorial Hospital in Burlington, Colorado. Leslie was born in Vona on June 30, 1913, to Daniel Joseph and Mary Lenore (Mumford) Tanner. Leslie graduated from Vona High School in 1931. On March 13, 1943, Leslie was united in marriage to Dorothy Lillis Wright in San Francisco, California in the Baptist Church. To this union four children were born: Linda, Dan, Nora and Lorraine. Leslie was a farmer/rancher and school custodian in the Vona area. He was a member of the Vona Baptist Church. Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers Forrest Tanner and Ralph Tanner and a sister Elsie Rasmussen. Family members left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of sixty-five years Dorothy of their home in Vona; his children Linda Mowery of Vona, CO; Dan Tanner and wife Helynn of Canon City, CO; Nora Hubbell and husband Jim of Vona, CO; and Lorraine McCullough and husband Mike of Vona, CO. Seven grandchildren: Clint and Michele Hubbell of Stratton, CO; Jaime and James Jackson of Vona, CO; Nicole and Jose Ibanez of Denver, CO; Lindsay Tanner-Passero of Canon City, CO; Morgan McCullough of Denver, CO; Michael McCullough of Ft. Collins, CO; and Chase McCullough of Vona, CO. Five great-grandchildren: Autumn, Molly, and Ella Hubbell; Wade Passero; and Alana Jackson. Also surviving is his sister Rose Pickard and husband Harold of Burlington, CO and a sister-in-law Margaret Tanner of Vona. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and a host of many friends. Funeral services for Leslie will be Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at 10:30 AM at the Vona Baptist Church. Pastor Ben Janzen officiating. Burial will follow in the Vona Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made in his name to the Mission Fund of the Vona Baptist Church and may be left at or sent to the Vona Baptist Church, Vona Colorado 80861.
