Everett Ceciel Ball was born Oct 18, 1933 to Clyde and Ollie âBakerâ? Ball in a farmhouse near Hanover, Colorado and departed this world on May 23, 2009 at Keefe Memorial Hospital in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado.
Everett grew up on a small ranch near Hanover where he began a lifetime of taking care of cattle. He attended Hanover High where he graduated in 1951 as the only member of his class.
He was drafted into the Army in January of 1954 and served until January of 1956 spending his active duty time mostly in the state of Washington.
Everett was married to Elvira Esther Engelbrecht on June 20, 1959 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cheyenne Wells. The couple moved to Elbert, Colorado where Everett took a job on a dairy farm. There they had the first of six children, a son named Rex. While in a hospital in Colorado Springs recovering from a car accident Everett was offered a job working for Andrew Schaeffer of Cheyenne Wells. They moved to a small house north of Towner, Colorado where Everett operated a feed lot and cattle grazing operation. While in Towner four more children were born, Susan, Russell, Richard and Ronald. In 1965 the family moved to a feedlot just south of Cheyenne Wells, the current Scott and Stephanie Schemer residence, where Everett again operated a feedlot. While there the last of six children, Randy, was born. Everett went to work for the COOP in 1980 where he worked for a few years before taking a job managing a feedlot south of Kit Carson for Shay Mockelmann.
Everett worked hard every day of his life until numerous heart attacks and other health problems would no longer allow him to do so. His later years were spent enjoying his fifteen grandkids and one great granddaughter. They were the light of his life and his inspiration to go on years after most would have given up.
Everett was preceded in death by his father Clyde Ball, mother Ollie Ball, wife Elvira (Engelbrecht) Ball, and a granddaughter Tatum Ball.
He is survived by a sister Wanda and husband Virgil of Arlington; brother Curtis and wife Doris of Fowler; (children) Rex Ball and wife Karla of Kit Carson, Susan (Ball) Schmatjen and husband Steve of Phoenix, Arizona, Russell and daughter in law Dana of Cheyenne Wells; Richard and wife Kristy of Cheyenne Wells; Ronald and wife Tammy of Kearney, Missouri; Randy and wife Tracie of Cheyenne Wells; fifteen grandchildren and one great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Keefe Memorial Hospital and left at Eastern Colorado Bank.
